Don’s reputation the world over resides as the definitive projection
technology expert for both front and rear projection screens and systems. For over 26 years, Don continues to be at the forefront of advancements of screen image fidelity for the commercial and home theater markets. His work includes extensive collaboration with Hollywood motion picture studios, and he has also consulted in hundreds of simulation projects
with aerospace clients such as NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. Don’s experience with these high-level artistic and scientific institutions
has significantly benefited the residential
and commercial imaging industry.
Don received his formal training in film and video technology from the University of Southern California School of Cinema. Don is extremely active in various civic and industry associations and was a former member of the board of governors
for InfoComm, Chairman of the InfoComm Exhibitors Committee, member of the Shoot Out committee, and prominent in the CEDIA channel.

DR. RAYMOND SONEIRA

The developer of DisplayMate, Dr.
Raymond Soneira is an internationally
recognized research scientist with a distinguished
career that spans physics, computer science, and television system design. Dr. Soneira obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Princeton University, spent five years as a member
of the world-famous Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, another five years as a Principal Investigator in the Computer Systems Research Laboratory at AT&T Bell Laboratories, and has designed, tested, and installed color television
broadcast equipment for the CBS Television Network Engineering and Development Department. He has authored over 35 research articles in scientific journals in physics and computer science, including Scientific American.

NICK LENA
Business Unit Manager / Sales and Marketing Manager,

Nick has degrees in both engineering and business,
and prior to joining Konica Minolta he spent several years with Gretag-Macbeth as Lighting Product Marketing Manager and Sales Manager for Visual Solutions. He has taught over 300 “Fundamentals of Color and Appearance” seminars. He is the author of the course book of the same name. He has been the guest speaker for such organizations as Detroit Color Council, Color Marketing Group, General Motors, Mattel, Honda, Jaguar, Boeing, Microsoft, and Steelcase, to name a few.
Nick is dedicated to color education for individuals
and companies involved in color imaging and management. As a member of the Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC), Detroit Color Council, and Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, Nick keeps current with the latest developments in the color community. Nick has been a member of the Illumination Engineering Society of North America since 1972. He is currently serving on the Board of Managers and instructing ED100, “Lighting Fundamentals.”

JEFF MURRAY
ISF Sales and Marketing Manager, Sencore Electronics
Jeff leads the Home Electronics Division for Sencore Electronics in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Prior to his Sencore experience, Jeff served as an Electronics Maintenance Chief and retired as a Sergeant Major from the US Army. Jeff holds a Masters degree in Business Information Technology and a Bachelors degree in Electronics Management from Southern Illinois University.
Starting in the late 1990s, Jeff began developing audio-visual calibration products for the high-end commercial and residential integration and installation markets. Through years of refinement to meet and exceed customer’s requirements, Sencore is a leading provider of a full line of Audio, Video, Color Measurement, RF, and General Test & Measurement equipment for the AV Industry for both residential and commercial markets.
Early on, Jeff viewed training as an important ingredient in developing standards for the AV industry and is affiliated with the Imaging Science Foundation and founded the Home Acoustics Alliance and RF Training Institute to further the cause of “quality installations through science.” Additionally, Jeff has spearheaded
several CEDIA and InfoComm accredited courses in topics ranging from Industrial Acoustics to Digital Audio Analysis, Medical Imaging (ASRT (American Society of Radiologic Technologists)), and more.

FRED GRUENDELL
Manager of Display Systems, Rockwell Collins
Fred Gruendell is Manager of Display Systems at Rockwell Collins, the leading company in simulation technologies. Fred has been involved in engineering display devices and systems for visual simulation for over 25 years. In addition to design, over the years he has in-depth experience evaluating a broad variety
of display technologies such as raster calligraphic
CRT displays, light valve technologies, Image Light Amplifiers, LCD, DLP, LCoS, and GLV-based systems. His work in visual simulation systems
has been principally used for flight simulation.
Fred describes his career as, “Building very expensive theaters for very small audiences.” Fred joined Evans & Sutherland in 1978, and now leads a team of engineers for Rockwell Collins Visual Products Display Engineering. He has been published at IMAGE and SPIE.

JOSHUA KAIROFF
Director of Display Engineering, Home Entertainment Business Group,
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.
Joshua Kairoff is Director of Display Engineering for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. In this role, he oversees the engineering and development of Pioneer’s consumer and professional plasma display
products. Kairoff is involved with all areas of product planning, including the design of control
and utility software and development of technical information resources, as well as the engineering of new products and applications.
Kairoff began his career with Pioneer more than ten years ago when he supported the company’s cube video wall display efforts. With more than 25 years of experience in the information
and entertainment display industry, he has held various titles with audio/video design and production companies, and previously assisted professional display businesses with the development of digital signage and video wall displays.
He is actively involved with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the Society for Information Display Science, and the National Television Academy Arts and Science’s Technology and Engineering Committee. Kairoff is an ICIA Certified Technology Specialist and a Certified ISF Instructor.
Kairoff graduated from Evergreen College in Olympia, Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Video Production and Audio Engineering.

RODNEY D. STERLING
Chief Engineer, JVC North America R&D Center, Projection Technology Group
Rod Sterling is Chief Engineer, of JVC North America Research and Development Center, Projection Technology Group, in Cypress, California. He received his MS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics from the University of California, San Diego. His previous work with Hughes-JVC Technology Corporation and the Hughes Aircraft company included basic development and production of the Hughes Liquid Crystal Light Valve, Hughes-JVC's
ILA® light valve, and various projector models holding engineering, manufacturing, and product management positions. He led the design and applications efforts in Digital Cinema and large venue projectors. He currently supports the efforts in the 4Kx2K, HD2K, and other D-ILA projectors, both front andrear projection, and their applications, with focus on home theater, reference monitors, visualizations/simulation, and stereoscopic displays. He has over 23 years of experience in the display area and over 15 years in Electronic Cinema. He is the author of over 16 journal articles, 12 patents, and 2 screen credits.
He is an active member of SID, IEEE, SPIE, and SMPTE. He has been active in SMPTE DC28 committees.

GEORGE WALTER

George Walter is the Home
Cinema Market Manager for Digital Projection Inc. Walter is a 20-year veteran
of the display industry and worked in product
management for both General Electric and Barco before joining Digital Projection in 2000 and launching their Home Cinema business unit. Walter has played an integral role in product development and distribution in a variety of display sectors, including:

- CRT-based projection systems
- LCD and DLP-based projection systems
- Medical display monitors

- Calibration monitors for the graphic arts industry

George holds a BSEE from Syracuse University and has extensive training in international
business and product management. An active traveler, George resides in Kennesaw, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

CHUCK COLLINS

Chuck Collins has more than 25 years experience creating sales and distribution programs in the large-venue digital imaging industry. His recent endeavors have created historic milestones in the entertainment
industry.
As Digital Projection’s Senior Market Development Manager, Chuck Collins has excelled at identifying new opportunities that utilize the company’s large venue displays. Recently, Collins has acted as Digital Projection’s executive leader in creating and supporting programs to supply projectors at every major film festival and exhibition industry
demonstration. His efforts have secured a nine-year alliance with the Sundance Film Festival, and established the company as the exclusive provider of digital projectors for the Festival’s digital programming.
Prior to Digital Projection, Inc., Collins managed territories for many large screen projector
manufacturers, including Barco, NEC, and AmPro.

JIM COLQUHOUN
Regional General Manager, Avidex Industries, LLC
Jim Colquhoun is the Regional General Manager for Avidex Industries, LLC, a systems integration company based in the Pacific Northwest. His current responsibilities include the management of the Northwest region, overseeing sales, technical services and operations.
Jim Colquhoun has been in the AV industry for over 33 years. Jim has an exceptional record of management and operational oversight experience, as well as expertise in the design and integration of communications, AV, and broadcast systems. In addition, he has been responsible for the creation of nationwide standards for CAD, engineering and programming. He has is also responsible for creating the first nationally recognized technical training program within a systems integration company. He has engineered and managed high profile AV systems for diverse applications, including theaters, hotels, entertainment venues, convention spaces, board rooms, network operations centers council chambers, and post-production studios. Jim has held a number of management positions over the course of his career. Prior to joining Avidex, he was VP of Technical Services for Audio Visual Innovations in Tampa, FL., Managing Director for ten MCSi offices, Director of Technical Services for Intellisys Group, and a Senior Manager with Pro Media. Jim has also been active in helping to educate the professional AV community by working with InfoComm and NSCA. He has authored industry articles and white papers on numerous technical topics. Jim is based out of AVI’s Denver office.

MICHAEL C. PEARCE
Principal, Pearcision Home Theater Group
Michael C. Pearce has been in the Display and Systems Electronics Industry for over 20 years and has in-depth knowledge and experience with digital cinema, commercial, and home theater applications. He has worked for several prominent companies, most recently with Faroudja Laboratories. Prior to Faroudja, he worked for JVC Professional and Hughes-JVC Technology as an Applications Engineering Manager, specializing in systems design and integration. For seven years he was calibration manager for Hughes-JVC for their digital
cinema projects, including the simultaneous premier release of Star Wars — Episode I (Lucasfilm, Ltd.) and An Ideal Husband (Miramax Films). While serving six years in the US Navy, he received his education at the Naval Electrical Engineering School and Systems Sonar Maintenance School in San Diego, California, with studies in systems electronics, oceanography,
and underwater sound propagation, and has also been AV industry trained through ISF and InfoComm. Michael is the principal of Pearcision Home Theater & Design Group, and develops and conducts training and seminar presentations
for the display industry.
