By one definition, to certify means “the act of granting credit or recognition with respect to an institution or industry that maintains suitable standards” ISF Commercial is dedicated to the establishment and adoption of display calibration standards utilizing recognized and tested procedures as the foundation. The rationale for ISF Commercial certification is to formerly recognize a high level of competency and achievement in the area of display calibration in the commercial audio visual industry.
There are three categories of ISF Commercial certifications:
ISF Commercial Technician Certification
The ISF Commercial Technical Certification is a two day program with the first day dedicated to understanding the science of light, color, and the human eye along with sections reviewing specifications and what they mean in the calibration process as well as a detailed tutorial on displays technologies and their characteristics. The second day is dedicated to a hands-on lab working with color meters, light meters, video test generators, test patterns and various display types to familiarize the attendee with the step by step process and details of calibration. Certification testing will take place at the close of the second day, or for those who wish to take the test at a later date, an online test will be made available.
ISF Commercial Sales Certification
The ISF Commercial Sales Certification is a one day program designed for people who need a complete and accurate understanding of all professional display aspects with an emphasis on communicating the need for display calibration. By demonstrating that “one size does not fit all” and seeing the differences in properly calibrated displays in specific applications, the sale person will be better able to serve their customer base. To this end, this course will cover the basics of human factors and how we respond to images on screen. It will cover the need to specify commercial displays “Engineered for Calibration” and the difference between commercial and consumer displays. It will conclude with an overview of tasks and processes that ISF Commercial Certified Technicians perform to provide a “perfect picture” on screen. Voluntary testing and certification will be held at the end of the second day.
ISF Commercial “Engineered For Calibration” Equipment Certification
By working with display manufacturers to better understand the degree of calibration that is necessary for a variety of applications and environments, ISF Commercial will award products in compliance the “ISF Commercial: Engineered for Calibration Certification”. The process involves testing a manufacturer’s products to discover the degree of calibration capability residing in the product and then working with them to enhance those capabilities and finally, making the enhanced calibration capabilities in the display available to a qualified calibration technician. This means that a qualified calibration technician will be able to configure a manufacturer’s display for peak performance, long life, energy savings, and the best total cost of ownership. This will be a clear differentiation between products with rudimentary adjustments versus full calibration.
